What is the Identification Method of Dry Ground Mica and Dry Mica Powder?

Mar. 25, 2020

As a Wet Ground Mica Factory, share with you. In order to properly use mica powder, the industry often needs to identify the intrinsic quality of mica powder. Although the particle size, whiteness, and moisture of mica powder are easy to measure, the identification of morphological characteristics and mica purity of mica powder has become a headache for manufacturers.

Qualified enterprises can use elemental analysis (such as X-ray fluorescence analysis) to determine the content of various elements and determine the purity of mica; use a particle size analyzer (such as Coulter particle size analyzer) to measure important data such as particle size distribution and specific surface area, and determine the form学 traits. However, it is difficult for general factories to meet these requirements.

The morphology of dry mica powder and Dry Ground Mica is very different. Based on the morphological differences, several methods for simple identification of dry and wet mica powder are introduced:

1. Settlement method:

Take a 10ml graduated cylinder, add 1g of mica powder, add 5ml of water, shake well, then add water to the 10ml mark and shake well. Observe the sedimentation speed at rest. Dry mica powder usually settles to the bottom in about 60 minutes, forming about 7ml of upper layer. In contrast, wet mica powder usually only forms about 1.5-3ml upper clearing night, and it takes several hours to form about 7ml upper clearing night. The principle is that the wafer of the wet process mica powder is very thin and has good suspension characteristics, while the wafer of the dry process product is thick and contains more quartz powder, which has poor suspension characteristics.

2. Density method:

The principle is that the wafer of the wet mica powder is very thin, and it is difficult to form a tight packing.

a. Bulk density method: the powder is fully dispersed, poured into a graduated cylinder to a certain scale, weighed, and calculated the density. The bulk density of wet mica powder is usually around 0.25g / ml, while the dry mica powder usually reaches 0.5g / ml.

b. Solid density method: Pour the powder into a weighing cylinder that has been weighed, weigh it, and shake it (such as tapping gently on the table) to reduce the powder volume until the powder volume no longer decreases (usually For 10-15 minutes). Calculate the density. The solid density of wet mica powder is usually about 0.50g / ml, and the dry mica powder is 0.70-0.80g / ml.

3. Pearlescent effect:

Take about 0.1-0.2g of powder, put it in a colorless transparent glass, add about 60-80ml of water, and stir. Wet-processed mica powders can form noticeable pearlescence, while dry-processed mica powders have poorer pearlescence.

Note: You must observe while stirring. At this time, the mica wafers are neatly arranged due to the water flow and reflect pearlescence; the water flow stops and the arrangement becomes chaotic and the pearlescence disappears.

The disadvantages of this method are not quantifiable, only suitable for comparison. Our company also has Sericite Mica for Sale, welcome to consult.
